We thought Just Rotten Dog was going to stay small at 16" and 35 pounds when she went to the local nursing homes. Suddenly she took a growth spurt when she was 2 1/2 years old and finalized her size at 18" and 45 pounds. We were sure she was done growing. Her growth spurt happened after we...

I discovered that some of my shar pei are frightened by people standing over them and reaching down to pet. this is what I call the towering effect. I made the dog sit and asked the visitor to squat down to the dog's level to pet them. This helped alot. I think that the people coming in and sitting ...

Auburn, WA has apparently completed their dog ordinance with the community happier than it was. It now states that a dog will be considered dangerous AFTER it has done something aggressive! Size will not be a factor-behavior will be the determinating factor. :)

:) When I went to see Bandit for the first time, my husband gave me strict orders that I was not to bring her home. I could look only so I could help find her a home. Went I saw her, she was in a 4'x8' dog run and had been for 18 months. It was kept clean and she had shade and water along with her f...

Good news! I made a point of watching the news the night of the city council meeting in Auburn, WA. The meeting was so packed with people protesting the ordinance that they decided to take it back to committee to rework and see if they can come up with something that is more acceptable. I hope that ...

Just heard on the news last night that the city of Auburn, WA is planning on a new ordinance that ANY dog over 30 pounds will be classified as potentually dangerous. They say this means that owners must have them in pens, on a leash, or even muzzled if necessary when they are outside their homes. :m...

I figured that Iams formula was changed when P&G bought them out. My dogs did not like to eat it so I changed to Purina. Maybe they were smarter than I thought by boycotting it back then. :D

Duh! You were right. I forgot to plug in my brain. :) It is so good to see him do more than lay down and try to scratch his ears. I worried about the expense of the ear surgery. But now I know it was worth it when I see Brody as a happy dog with no fever or ear pain. :) When ear surgery is the ONLY ...

It is exciting to hear about the dogs and how they do with their obedience training and graduations. I finally have time to answer about Just Rotten Dog and how we did the therapy. We live in a lesser populated area of our state. I did not get Just Rotten tested before I started taking her to the nu...

First I took her to lots of noisy places and places with things happening so she got used to that sort of thing. I did th...

I have a couple good pictures of Brody but I do not know how to post them. I took a long time to figure out how to post. I guess I am computer challenged. He is doing fine but I will be glad when he is finished wearing his "bonnet".

On January 27th, we welcomed a new love into our life. He is Brogan's Brody, a cream horsecoat with a dark mask. He is a real sweet boy. My daughter found him at the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society along with a second shar pei named Fabio. Unfortunately I could only get one of them. She said Brody n...

What I liked best about my shar peis is they are not nuisence barkers. If they bark, we go check. We know something out of the norm is going on. It also made for better friendships with the neighbors. <img border="0" alt="[HaPPei]" title="" src="graemlins/happei.gi...

Yes I have many but I think the worst was shortly after we moved to our current home. A strange man rang the bell. I looked out the window and did not recognize the man. So I held the collar of my black barking shar pei. I explained through the screen door that Peeking did not like strangers AT All!...

The internet is great! I connected with my cousins that I had not seen since I was 5 years old. We joke that animal rescue must be 'genetic' also. :) My dad had rescued several animals through the years-with my mom's blessings. I got one of the dogs rescued in the 96 taken in Oregon. We seemed to ha...

I had been shown to walk in figure 8's with my dog. This requires them to keep an eye on me. I walk straight for a short distance then do a couple or three figure 8's. Then I walk straight for a short distance again. This has me turning into and away from my dog and keeps their attention up. Doing t...
