No mind about me! I am worried about you and him- Others are more knowlegeable about these things than I. If this can be turned around we will pray for that.

High Alk/Phos indicates possible liver issues as well.....many Vets will miss this. Will have to give support for liver too probably at least milk thistle & SamE

I am so sorry you are having to for through this. Hopefully a treatment will work. Don't give up and we are here for you. Just make sure that you use a low protein diet. This will help reduce the kidney's from having to work so hard.

Sheli,

I'm so sorry. I know EXACTLY how you are feeling right now. It hurts so much....like a punch to the stomach/having the air knocked out of you. I'm about 10 days ahead of you in terms of finding out and trying to come up with a protocol that is best and I tell you, I still feel lost. There's so much to consider. Just keep asking questions and make the best decisions for Murphi based upon the information you're given.

You are in my thoughts....

Chandra

I agree with Mandy, you seem to have caught this quickly, and there are protocols, drugs and diets that can keep them ticking for quite a while. I recently wrote up a little blurb on diet for Cagney.

Please keep us in the loop, you know we will help however we can!

Sheli, I've been down this road more times then i thought i would be, 2 of my pei died from amyloidosis and now my sabrina has kidney/liver issues too. it's such a curse  sub-q fluids are essential, hopefully they can get his BUN lower. there is also EPAKITIN which is used to bind phos in the body, it's manufactured by the makers of AZODYL. Lita's remedies are available too. there was a great article on ASSOCIATED CONTENT about a pei named MAX who had amyloidosis and lived for several years. his owner wrote down everything she did to extend his life in that article. we dont have alot of options for treating KF in dogs, even if you did dialysis on him it would only be a temporary solution and a very expensive and unpleasant one. choose the treatment plan you feel comfortable with. there is even a controversial method some vets use called DMSO. we will pray for Murphi and hope that you can help him to live as long as possible with his KF. remember fresh healthy food is really important, the chemicals in commercial food are not going to benefit him. spring water/filtered water is good also.

Thanks Sherry for the info :)

Murphi had a good night, NO vomiting :D he does have a little loose stool though but we are heading back to the vet this morning, i'm taking in his first morning urine and Dr. wants to take a look at him. We had x-rays taken yesterday to rule out any blockage and that was before the blood-work came back, so she will talk about that too.

We are off to the vet
