Hello All!! I was just curious how much everyone walks their pup on a daily basis? Kirby is just over 4 months and tires out quite quickly... he is definitely not a morning puppy and was not impressed when I attempted to take him for a walk one morning. If I take him to work I will just walk him around the block at lunch time... and then he is set for the rest of the day.... If he stays at home I will take him out for 20 min. in the evening... Is this enough exercise? I know they are a low energy breed... but I want to ensure Im getting him out enough

Depending on the weather- I walk mine 30-60 minutes a day. Longer when it's cooler. Four months is still a puppy. He will get some more stamina as he gets older.
It also depends on the dog. Circe would walk all day if she could. Tugg is usually dragging way behind us on our 60 minute walks. Our Moe was always exhausted after just 20 minutes, shorter if it was hot out.

It does depend a lot on the temperature for Dee - she is a big walker under say 70 degrees but let it get much warmer and she is ready to stop drop and roll .

generally mine get a 20 minute walk daily, plus time to run around in the yard. Sabrina can only manage a 5 minute walk now.

Jia went on a 30 minute jog with me the other day, otherwise our walks vary. The only time she gets tuckered out is when the temp is too warm. We have walked for a good hour at a time, too. But our typical walk is about 30 minutes. I think every dog is different. Jia is pretty active, and if we don't get a walk in, she does her zoomies around the house for about 10 minutes straight and exercises herself. It's quite hilarious....

Every one of ours are different. Tea is ten years old. Weather permitting he likes a daily walk for about a half hour. Diva, we adopted at a young age. Four/Five months. That girl did not like to walk and was a 'late sleeper'....thru her puppyhood. As an adult she will be six. Wow. She likes a daily walk for about 40 minutes. Walking not sniffing. So it comes to about 1/4 mile up and back. Noodle is a marathoner. Girl will go go go. We just did two miles with her on the beach yesterday and she wasn't winded. It was cool out also. So your pup sounds about normal. I wanted to add a very important note, I was taught by my vet that younger dogs especially large breeds do NOT need rigorous exercise because their bones are still growing/growth plates forming. AND was I taught that its best NOT to jog or push a younger dog to climb steep inclines at a young age. Those events are to be postponed until after the dog is fully grown. My vet has stood by that for all large breed dogs and his logic is to avoid any additional damage or strain because the larger breeds already deal with dysplasia/arthritis as a reality in their older years. Talk over your choices of exercise for your pup with your vet too. That's my additional humble opinion.

I posted an article about reactive leash walking here by mistake and am placing it on "growling to play with other dogs, how to stop" thread.

Typically Chyna and I will go for about a 30min walk on average, although last week it was almost an hour and a half when I walked down to the tobacco shop. I always bring a bottle of water for her to drink out of and she seems fine. Funnily enough, she's no longer tugging on the leash as much when we get back home!
