Hi all,
Like most (i think) I have been a lurker for some time but necessity means I could really do with specific help for my Lola. Lola is a 7 month old choc dilute horse coat. Diet: She has always been on JWB Turkey and Veg. She has small amount of goats milk prior to breakfast. Breakfast - JWB and 1 sardine (brine) Dinner - JWB and probiotic yoghurt and quistel omega 3.
JWB cereal free treats. All other treats thrown out approx 1 month ago.
Symptoms: 1 month ago Started off with scratching to ears to point of bleeding. Sores to front arm pits (come and go) Sore looking nipples and belly button. Diarrhea infrequently after normal stools on walk. Red paws. But this week...first season has begun and possibly first moult... She now has bald patches to forehead which began quite gooey and balding around ears. Looks reddish and dry. Also balding between shoulders and on tail which she now bites. Lathargic and off her food (just eaten first meal in 24 hours as i type)
Tried feeding her coconut oil but gave her more diarrhea and put her off her food. Also tried placing it on dry spots but made her scratch more. Been giving her half a piriton with each meal... no real benefits yet. She refuses to drink water if i put Apple cider vinegar in.
Bathe her in quistel shampoo and conditioner. Clean ears with quistel twice a week and appear clean and free from smell. Used to have dark brown wax in them. Vet has given her Rilexine for bacterial infections from scratching ears. Also recommended stick with piriton. Scrapping revealed no Demodex but not definitive.
Prob missed lots but will add as I remember..
All help and advice RE food/supplements and remedies very welcome..
Many thanks, Dermot and Lola (pics to follow)

That is pretty extreme irritation/inflammation. I would have her into the Vet for a check. Possible infection and allergies.

Went to the Vet this morning. The Vet has given her Rilexine for bacterial infections from scratching ears. Also recommended stick with piriton. Scrapping revealed no Demodex but not definitive. Vet also said give anti biotics 2 weeks to take effect and then bring her back unless she gets rapidly worse

Poor Lola. Rilexine is a general antibiotic. Her diet is very good, grain free with well known supplements. The medication does not seem to be working -it would have been under control by now. Vets can be like GPs; trial and error. With Lola's condition I would be inclined to visit a shar pei friendly vet you can obtain info from the shar pei rescue uk (i'm guessing you are over here from the meds and food. I would also strip her diet back to basics eg kibble only so as to begin to illiminate any possible food allergy. Let us know how you get on. oh btw whilst on antibiotics it's best to keep up the prebiotic yoghurt.

In a pup this age , I would still suspect demodex , even with a negative scrape. It is not unusual to get negative scrape in sharpei . I would suggest you sort through the health and nutrition section you may find a picture/story that reads just like yours. There are before and after photo's for you to see. I think you will be amazed at what diet can do. I would suggest you go to a homemade or Raw Diet. I also think your pei needs more vitamins that JWB can provide.Finish all anti-biotics because usually any dog that scratches will have a bacterial infection, and possible yeast as well.Go back to your vet if the antibiotics are not working.
