Hi, I have a 3 y.o. pei Gidget. We went over to my friends, but I forgot that she is half rescuing a biting dog. It went after me and Gig. I got the worst of it, but found some wounds on Gidget. She is not acting hurt, I cleaned her as soon as I saw them. She is not licking them and I am putting antibiotic ointment on her. Animal control has already come and gone. Is there anything else I should be doing?

My heart goes out to you. I remember Gidget well. She is our pink dress girl.
I would follow up with a vet visit. But I am a rare one of the members
who lives in an affordable area. Keep a close eye on it and you own wounds
for any redness and antibiotics may be needed. Keep us updated.

Ouch! So sorry this happened to you both. If the wounds aren't bad then sounds like you did of, just keep an eye on them and on her for any signs of infection.

The stupid dog is supposed to be gone by now, and his triggers are breating in and out and existing. This is not the first time it has bitten me. I had to get stitches and take antibiotics. I am using antibiotic lotion on gidget. She does not seem traumatized and I check for infection, but I got in between the dogs as soon as I could. I just need to be sure to go to the vet. The last times I went, she basically got an 90 dollar can of food because she was acting neauseus, and a 200 dollar bag of ice for a bump on the cheek. I will keep checking her, but she seems fine and the only thing she does not like is her daily cleaning and antibiotic application.

so your friend was fostering the dog that attacked you n your pei? or was she rescuing him/her? maybe not a good idea to bring your peiby over there, if she is fostering rescues. you never no what that dog went threw before ending up at your friends house. im sorry you guys had to go threw that, it sounds like it was a bad attack on you both. i hope you guys are o.k. as for gidgets wounds i would just keep doing what your doing, and if shes starts to show any sign of discomfort or sickness then make the trip to the vets. but it sounds like your doing a good job at tending to her wounds. i hope you both get well soon.

That is sad for all concerned. As a rescue person and trainer, I have to deal with
the sad heartache of making the call to put severely aggressive dogs down.
As a last resort.
I highly recommend Olympic Animal Sanctuary to anyone dealing with a dog in that sort of situation.
Steve will take certain dogs to spend its days with him or he will place the dog rather than put the dog down.
If you want to recommend him to your friend here is the link. You email him the dog's history and
he will consider the dog.

i would not go back over there unless that dog is in a crate the entire time. too dangerous! sorry you and your peiby were exposed to a vicious dog. i hope you both heal quickly. good advice given, i would check that rescue out.

My friend has a black lab that she brought to her friends house. The other friend had a spanial of some sort. The dogs started fighting (which was shock to both of them, as they have never fought before and are mellow dogs). My friend went in to break up the fight, her dog got her finger in his mouth and ripped it off. It was hanging by a tendon. She ended up having 4 stitches to save her finger. That finger is now minus one nuckle. They had to amputate the section between the first two knuckles from the tip. They took that part out and reattached the tip of her finger.

I feel for you. I hope you and your pei heal up quickly. Don't ever get in between two dogs. grab something to put between them. It could cost you your life otherwise. My friend was lucky it was only her finger....

I still have the 14 scars on my arm from breaking up a fight between 2 Pei years and years ago....2 hormonal females...one pregnant & the other in season and they hated each other even on their most mellow days...lol. This was a hard lesson but I learned to be extra careful when intervening in canine conflicts.

Breaking up dog fights is serious business and it can get dangerous quickly. There are ways of doing this that are safer than getting in between them.....great article on this at the link below.

I will have a read of that link. I was out on a training walk with Storm yesterday and some random entire male came from nowhere and fronted us out. Storm started whining, not sure if it's anger or excitement but had we had Pearl with us, I would have been in trouble for sure. She doesn't like strange dogs in her space! And would she have been worse protecting her son?
