Hi,

I have a 13 wk sable brush coat and LOVE her! She is so wonderful. I want to make sure she has the best care and I am having problems finding a shar-pei friendly vet. I've had the same vet for the last 12 years, but was disappointed when he wanted to know why I would choose this breed and his new partner printed out 4 pages of what can go wrong before I had even brought her in. When I did bring her in, my old vet was there but was supposively on the phone and the new vet couldn't believe what a good disposition she had but if I needed any blood to be drawn that I would have to take her somewhere else! I have called around to ask if there are any vets that have a lot of experience with shar-peis and I get the same response, "we don't specialize in any breed". Does any one have any suggestions? I am trying a new vet tomorrow. Hopefully this one will be better than my own.

Hello mbmcavoy727,

And welcome to our/your Forums.

California Shar Pei Rescue has an extensive list of Shar Pei Friendly Vets in Florida.

I would suggest you call around. Good Luck!

Thanks and I have really enjoyed reading up on the different situations. I did use the list, but unfortunately it seems to be a little out dated. I called several vets on the list in my area and they are no longer there. Do you have any other suggestions? Are there any questions I should be asking that may help me find one.

Too Bad.

Let me know which Vets are gone and I'll remove them from the Cal Shar Pei Rescue site (Yup, I manage that one, too).

You might try calling some of the Shar-Pei Rescues in Florida for a referral. They should know.

Also, you can do a search on these Forums to locate our Florida members. The search link is near the top of each page.

Ask around. You'll find a good Vet.
