I got this photograph from the archives of The Baltimore Sun Newspaper. It is first dated Sept. 2, 1979. The photo caption is as follows;

Loren Friedel, 13, sits with Shang-Yi-Tai-Du, her 10-month old Shar-Pei.
Shang is the only one of his kind in Maryland.

A more Traditional Sharpei . Amazing how they have changed . Wish we could find some more of these old lines
and types around start over.

Thanks GG for the walk down memory lane I remember my very first shar pei the only male I ever had and looked very much like Shang-Yi-Tai-Du and also had a smile as big as Loren's and was just as proud. To this day I still have that smile and feel of proudness with each one I have owned.

When I say past tense ones I have owned I definitely am not refering to the two I have now because I don't own them they own me.

That was exactly the photo of Dakota that inspired me to think of this historical photo. I was going to line them up like you did, side by side. The resemblance is striking!

LOve this photo....absolutely reminds me of Dakota!

One of my early Pei (Chew's Tazz) looked alot like this too only she had tiny little ears and a crooked tail.
