JUSTICE FOR JUSTICE! I was dropping off a donation to our local No Kill Shelter today and spotted a Pei/Pitt mix named Justice. She is currently being treated for mange and heartworms but will be ready for adoption soon. Get ready to be infuriated...Justice was used for SHARK BAIT...yes that is just what it sounds like, they take a dog out on the ocean, throw it overboard and hope the splashing of it swimming will attract sharks. I was seeing red when I heard this. I already have a house full, on top of the fact that I rent and my property manager is getting nosey (I did pay a pet deposit, but only for 2 dogs and I have 4). She looks like Jelly except more wrinkles. This is a very sweet girl that has had a rough go of it so far. I am hoping someone on here will have room in their home and heart to take her in and show her the love she so very much deserves. Here is the web address for the rescue she is housed at: http://arnianimalrescue.org/ Even if you can't take her in, they will be very grateful for any donation you can make. They also offer low cost shot clinics in our area and have been where I have gotten all my kids shots at. Please Help Justice! UPDATE: Search Facebook for Arni Foundation to see their facebook page and the pictures below are of Justice from their facebook page. The 1st is when she first came in and the 2nd is more recent. CORRECTION: I evidently spoke to the wrong voulenteer (sp?), though no less ghastly, Justice was seized durring an undercover sting for a dog fighting ring where, when they discovered she wouldn't fight, she was used as a bait dog for the dog fights An investigation and charges are being persued and hopefully the culprits will be tied to the back of a moving vehicle and dragged til there are only tiny pieces left and it will be broadcast on international televison as a warning to all other animal abusers...(one can hope, right?!?) Justice in November Justice More Recent

I've read about dogs being used for shark bait, what a sick individual that could do something like that! thank God this dog is in a caring shelter. I pray she finds a loving home quickly

Our Tea was supposedly bait dog in a fight ring here on west coast of florida. None of the rescues wanted him because they knew his past and were not equipped to take him on. He had these burns and stabs all over.
A friend called me about him. He was sick. Stage III heartworm among so many other challenges.
He came into the shelter looking ALOT like that....go look at him now
He is really is such a great dog with other dogs in our home and he 'failed' as a fight dog because he will not initiate unless mortally threatened. Not good around young kids or cats.
If anyone decides to take that dog, I hope its a trainer and if not whoever does will need lots of help teaching re-direction and knowing what command words NOT to use that is pre-wired in their mind.
When Tea was picked up he was chained in an abandoned house in the scorching hot florida weather with no food no water for what was estimated at least 6 weeks.
He just needed alot of medical care, time and loyalty from a human who respected him and shows kindness.
We adore our Tea. He is an amazing shar pei.

Wise words Tanoocas. I can tell you this, my fiance and I rescue, train/rehab, and re-home Pitt Bulls to keep them out of the High Kill Shelters in this area. He has been retraining Pitts for over a decade and started out with Fighters that he literally stole (if necessary) from their abusers. I have learned alot from him and when I approached Justice, I did so with no pre-pet hand sniff. I just reached in with both hands on either side of her face and started petting. She didn't flinch, instead she pushed her head into my hand like "don't rub, SCRATCH!" Trapping a dogs head is the quickest way to get bit, however it is also the quickest way to judge character. My trooper is my sweetheart, but I know without a doubt if an adult stranger were to put their hands on either side of his head without his dad or I around, they are coming back with a bitten hand. The way the rescue is laid out is they have cells with split doors (bottom is solid, top has glass and they open seperately) her top was open and she was standing on her hind legs with her head on her paws over the top of the bottom half. She didn't look frightened, she looked sad. As far as selling herself to potential adopters, she has the look down pat. I left in tears. I am appreciative of the support from everyone on here for Justice.

Years ago when I lived in the north I worked with my ex hubby's family who are all law enforcement family and that is how I got into the 'training' world. I never formally certified when I moved. But my friends and loved ones know that some dogs need a thorough assessment before they are put down. That is how Tea landed in our home. Diva would be a mess without him. He taught her SO much. She had been removed from her litter too young and needed all the pack mentoring possible. Our Noo came to us under similar conditions and needed to learn pack life.
So, we get calls a few times a year to go see a 'nasty' dog. And most of them are dogs subjected to fighting not of their own making...most of them are short lived in that underworld and have a chance with the right handler. I do not ever take a dog or suggest anyone ever take one who have any children inside their home. Way way too risky. We have 'empty nest' right now so it gives us opportunity to help.
Its nice to meet fellow rescuers.

Thought you might like to hear the rather bizarre story of how .... many years ago .... we rescued Whiskey .... a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix ..... from a fate worse than death When we bought a smallholding in South Africa we kept on an elderly Angolan who'd lived there for more than 20 years .... Moses had only one eye .. was missing several fingers ..and walked with a terrible limp ... but was a brilliant gardener.
Unfortunately ..... Moses was rather partial to a plate of spicey DOG CURRY! We didn't find out about this until one day my 11 year old son came rushing into the house .... needed 50 cents urgently .... would tell me why when he came back .... and rushed out again ..... ten minutes later he appears ... carrying a plump 5 month old puppy, which he'd just bought from Moses.
When the whole story came out we were all horrified .... my son had spotted the puppy tied to a rope in the yard behind Moses's cottage ..... asked him if it was his new pet .... no ... the puppy was being fatten up ..... destination .... the cooking pot! My son offered him 50 cents for the puppy which .... was accepted.
To discourage Moses from eating any more dogs we promised him instead we'd keep him well supplied with beef ..... as far as I know he never made a puppy curry again!

OMG tweetypei! That is quite the story indeed! Thank goodness for your son's good heart and common sense solution.

Thought I would bring this post back to the top and add some good news. As of today, Justice is my new pei-by. I went through the adoption process and she is with me now. I feel I am finally ready to fill Trooper's place in our home though never his place in my heart, and after Justice had been re-homed and returned twice, it felt like fate that she was just waiting for me to be ready. She is back to full health and has lost some of her shar pei features over to the more dominate pitt bull side of her, but those who know what to look for will still see the pei in her. No matter, she is my baby now and soooo lovable. Amazing considering what humans have done to her. I will be uploading pictures soon.

AWESOME! Puts a lump in my throat. We know how difficult and how much dedication goes into bringing the neglected ones back to their best health possible. Thank you for updating us!
