Hello forum,

I am here looking for a little educated advice, and I know you ladies and gents know your stuff! Fortunately my peiby is doing well, but my 9-1/2 yr old boxer was recently diagnosed with Spondylosis. My vet prescribed Deramaxx at a dose of 50 mg daily for pain. She also prescribed Tramadol 50 mg to be given up to twice daily for pain. The Deramaxx seems to be helping, but I ran out over the weekend (poor planning on my part) and I have a follow up appointment for him this Friday. In the meantime, what is the best option to give him for a day or two since I am out of Deramaxx? (I am sure I can get a couple more pills from my vet in the next couple days, but I don't want to leave him uncomfortable or in pain today and/or tomorrow). Should I introduce the Tramadol, which he has not taken at all yet, or should I give him some dosage of aspirin instead? He is about 62.5 lbs.

Please share your opinions. I would also love to hear if anyone has any stories they can share about dealing with Spondylosis in their dogs.

Thanks!
Dawn

The deramaxx is a NASID anti-inflammatory be aware it can cause stomach problems...I woould talk to your vet about using an antacid 2 hrs before the med is given.....Most of us use Metacam as a NSAID.[Seems safer]The tramadol is for pain relief..
Spondliosis is bone spurs on disc that are degrading..

Give the Tramadol , if your out of the dermaxx at least it will keep the pain at bay. The deramaxx or metacam will build up in their system - so missing a day shouldn't be too bad but may set you back a little

My collie first got spondylitis at age 7 and was on metacam for years. After several years it seemed to not be effective but at the same time I put the dogs onto a raw diet and it perked her up and she stayed off metacam for a few more years until she got worse again

tramadol is a very mild pain killer. If prescibed by your vet, i wouldnt hesitate to use it.
