Ok,

so Hammy has a really bad skin rash/swelling on his neck, under all this neck folds..it starts out just red, then got some sores on it, and now today it is bright red and had blood on it with multiple sores.... Here are some pictures I just had taken.

Ohh, as far as i can tell there is no bad smell...and we dont leave his collar on at all.

these were taken after I wiped it down and cleaned off the blood with vinegar/water. Any ideas?

looks like a hot spot.
mine (kira) gets a rub spot from one of her harnesses if it's hot out or if she is in water with it. i have several harnesses so that everyday it's a different one to prevent rub spots or hot spots.

try to just keep it clean (the vinegar water was an excellent choice!) and maybe some soothing cream for a few days and see how it develops!

:)

Awesome. I dare say we wont have it here in Aus, but I will ask my vet for similar products to use. It's actually quite frustrating being here as not alot of dog related products get sold here on our market

hey. how is the spot clearing up? is it still red and itchy or have you been able to get it under control.
have you found a good cream?

i use sometimes if it's really and case of super itchies and i know it's not yeast, a cortisone cream. i only use it once or twice on any particular spot as cortisone stops the building up of the skin cells and can actually thin the skin. we can't get over the counter cortisone anything here so i get it from my vet. i normally use a zinc cream (the kind for baby's butts) since zinc is GREAT for the skin.

have you been itroduced to Sue's Pei Powder yet? it's also a really great anti itch, but i dont use it on anything wet. only on the dry itchies for us.

you can do a search here for it and get the information.

you mix it yourself. cornstarch and boric acid. easy to make and use and helpful stuff.

hopefully he is feeling better and the spot is going away by now...

This is a mixture a vet put together and works wonderful for skin problems
1 capful White Vinegar
1 capful Listerine 1/2 crushed aspirin
Mix fresh each time, can be put on several times a day

Hi Slofuzz,

What are you feeding your little baby? A lot of times, dogs that get sensitives like that are also having some diet issues which allows little spots like that to form and things like yeast and bacteria to move in.

Hi Again,

Hammy's neck problem I dare say is getting better! The first few days I started treating it, it got worse, but now alot of the redness has gone and so have the little sores...yay! I have just been using vinegar and listerine...its amazing, I have a new found respect for it!

Ohh and I feed Hammy on california Naturals Herring and sweet potato because it only has barley and oats in it..and is 21% protein...the ONLY grain free food that is available to me here is EVO and its completely grain free but its also 44% protein....not to mention evo is $110 a bag and Cali naturals is only $80ish.... so its a trade off.....

hey Everyone,

just thought I'd let you know that Hammy's rash seems to have cleared up, it was in fact a hot spot :( But thanks to a very good friend and her unusual method of treatment, it is now normal looking healthy skin that just so happens to be bald....(>.<)

I have a new found appreciation for listerine :D

I shall try to get some new pics up shortly!
