Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine. Our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and were old have been restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days gone by.

The animals are happy except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had been left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted and when you and your special friend meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart...

...then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

Sorry my Baby Fancy I didn't forget your birthday that was on Monday, its just a belated wish to you my sweet little girl. Mama misses you so much and I want to tell you that everyday i still look at your picture of you, Ritz, Owie's and Sharpie. All my beautiful Pei's you all were. My heart still is sad from you being gone, but, i know now you are in a place that you are running free now with no more pain anymore.

I do have a new little one, beautiful boy named Takoda Bear a blessing from Ms. Jan and he is so beautiful but i tell you that he is my little stinker and is his own boss thats what he thinks. LOL but the sweetest to he is. My sweet girl i just want to say thank you to for hanging in there with me and for sending me Ritz at the time i needed him to come into my life and he helped me thru my cancer at the time, but i know that you sent him to me and then he knew i was safe and then left me and then i was blessed by Takoda who Jan sent him to me. I am so thankful for so many great friends and for my beautiful pei's.

I love you my sweet little girl..and i will always keep you in my heart all of you. So i wont say goodbye my baby girl Fancy, because i know again one day we will meet again.

Luv Mama

I don't know if it is true or not but I sure hope so it sounds like a beautiful place. Every time I read The Rainbow Bridge it brings tears to my eyes and I can see my love ones playing in fields it speaks of waiting for me.

Paul I know it's hard and your feelings are part of the healing I promise you it will get better you never completely get over losing one you just learn to deal with it better.

When our dogs die, they don't tell us a definitive goodbye, they tell us see you soon. Even if our eyes don't see them, their spirit is still with us and our soul can feel them close.

I am thinking of all our best friends who are at the Rainbow Bridge where they are safe, warm and playing happily.

I believe we will see our best friends again, until then their spirit surrounds us with love.

It's been a while since I've been on this forum. My first visit was in 2011 after losing my Nikki to MCT (lived 2 months post op). Then again under a different topic when I got my Sassy from a shelter. Nikki was a black Shar Pei beauty and her passing destroyed a part of my heart that can never be repaired. Sassy is also a black Shar Pei beauty....well, she's beautiful to me. She has been with me 2 years now and I learned 1 month ago that she, too, has MCT. The tumor was removed (inside the anal cavity), Grade 2 w/clean margins, and the all too familiar regimen of prednisone and benedryl began. Last week she developed a cough which has gradually gotten worse. My vet suspects metastases to her lungs; x-rays scheduled for tomorrow. I am still mourning the loss of Nikki, I don't think I can handle the loss of Sassy. She has become my companion, my entertainment...my reason for going on after I lost Nikki. I've watched her spirit fade and her appetite decrease but she has also become very clingy, needing constant hugging and petty (which I give her without question). I think the hardest part of this is knowing....knowing how it feels when they close their eyes for the last time. Knowing how it feels to come home to an empty house without that wrinkled up black face at my door, knowing the pain of washing her food and water bowl for the last time, and the unbareable sadness of folding up her blanket and putting it away for safe keeping. I don't know how much time I have with my Sassy but every minute will be cherished until she makes her way to Rainbow Bridge....Nikki will be waiting for her.

I'm so sorry. I lost 3rd pei to MCC also back in Nov. 2005, after having a tumor removed from her lip in March.
after going thur "the long goodbye" with her, I wondered if it would be better to just have one go quickly.

I found out last month with my pei Belle. She got sick with FSF on Wed afternoon & she was comatose friday afternoon & gone sat morning.

While it's horrible that your pei is going to be gone soon, PLEASE, PLEASE ENJOY the time you have left with her. I would give ANYTHING to have been able to have had a LONG goodbye with belle.

After having dealt with both long & short goodbye's with my pei's, & wondering which was better, I've come to the conclusion, as long as they are not in pain, I'd much rather have the long goodbye, to be able to spend time & really spoil them.

I know what you mean by a part of your heart went with your other pei. That happened with my 2nd pei Maggie. I had a "long goodbye" with her in 2002. A part of my heart went with her..........
