I know pei are a very clean breed and wondering wether this is part of it?

Pearl and Jezebel were clean and dry at 8 and 9 weeks respectively, Storm however.............well He is now 4 and a half months and has been clean and dry for a couple of weeks but before that if he had a bowel accident, he would try and cover it with whatever he could find.............blanket, cushion etc. I have never seen this before. He only did this for house accidents and doesn't attempt to cover when in the garden, so I have to assume it was some form of 'guilt' although all books tell you dogs don't feel guilt/remorse etc

I think it's pretty/fairly common in some dogs.

My friend Peggy's chow used to do this when he (Bear) had an accident in the house. Best way to describe it is that when he couldn't get out and he had to go really bad would cover the evidence. If I remember correctly he used to drag throw rugs over it

Well if it gets to be a problem just get him a litter box (LOL)

i agree with sassy, maybe leaving out a few puppy pads will help. my neighbor gave my sister one of those little patchs of green fake grass for her mix mini something she has, and she actually uses it. lol. she poos and pees on it. and its washable.
at least with the puppy pads you could leave one to poo on and another to cover so your things dont get ruined.

Bella does this when she poos in my garden, and she only poosin the garden when she really has too, she will use her snout to ccover it with grass it takes her a little while but when she is done most times you cant see it unless you are looking for it. She never bothers when we are out on a walk its squat , poo then off she goes, its like she knows the garden is our property and she is sorry for pooing in it. god she is such a great little dog.

we have lots of rescue dogs come thru and many of them hide their poop if they aren't able to go outside (we start them in large pens in the garage and I've found many a blanket wadded up over poop if I dont make it home for lunch). I'd say it is pretty common with pei. They housetrain easily and seem "embarrassed" if they can't make it outside for their business.

My cat Sashi taught my Tibbie Chloe how to use a litter box and like her feline sister she covers up her pee and poo.

Eight week old M'boi was house trained three days after I brought her home. At two and a half years old she'll only poo when we're on our walk or if we're at the top of the land .... no ways will she poo on the lawn outside the house!

She's only had an upset tum a three or four times and what a fuss she made ... pacing up and down and whining at the front door making it quite obvious what she wants. The first time I didn't recongnise the signs and she was dreadfully upset and SO aplogetic about pooing on the tiles at the farthest end of the living room.

Poor girl, I felt really sorry for her!
