Annabel is acting a little funny tonight. She had been really lethargic, trembling a little bit, not eating much at all... we just took her temperature, and it is 102.7. Is this considered a fever? Wondering if we should give her an aspirin or just monitor her temperature for a little while?

Normal temps are between 100.5 and 102.5....so this would be a low fever. She have any history of fevers or swollen hocks or muzzle?

Nope, no fevers or swollen hocks or muzzle in the past. She doesn't seem to have any swelling right now, but she is definitely feeling a little under the weather.

I would monitor temps every hour or so then. If she goes over 103.0 I would maybe give asprin...they can have between 5-15mg per pound evry 6 hours (the first 24 hrs of fever, then every 8 hours after that till fever is gone.

Probably a good idea to run her to the Vet in the am for a CBC to check for infection as she may need to be on antibiotics. If fever goes over 105.5 she should go into the vet immediately.

Thanks so much for the advice. We're going to keep an eye on her temperature tonight and call her vet in the morning. I'm really hoping this passes quickly for her.

We had a rough start to the day. Annabel's temperature stayed about the same through the night, and then jumped up to 104.5 this morning. She wouldn't eat or drink anything, was walking a little stiff, and just looked generally miserable.

We gave her an aspirin, and by noon her temperature was back down to 102.3. I was worried about her getting dehydrated, so I gave her some chicken broth. That was a big hit. We just got home from the vet, where her temp was 101.5, she drank a big bowl of water, ate lots of treats, and behaved totally normal. Talk about a fast turn around!

The vet suggested that we not do any blood work today since her temperature had already dropped, but that since we can't really say for sure what the cause of her fever was that we start her on colchichine as a precaution. I told her I would call her tomorrow to let her know if we want to go that route or not, because I wanted to do a little research first.

Does it make sense to give Annabel colchichine after just one fever that may or may not be FSF? Can it do any harm? What about just doing fish oil and HyVitality? I've got the information from Dr.Tintle (my vet printed some of her articles out for us), but I'm a little overwhelmed.

You can wait for a second fever..There are remedies for FSF that not only prevent fevers but A and kidney/liver disease...THey are not toxic either...
Hy V seems to help some pei and not others ..You can't know until you try it on your pei...
