Hello,
Just introducing myself and my little girl Kahlua
She is 1 year and 5 months old as of tomorrow!
Kahlua is not pure-bred pei, her father was mini-shar pei/beagle and her mom was shar pei. So, I suppose she is classified as a "hybrid". However, she does not have many Beagle qualities (exception her eyes and howl) and I've found she is very much Pei! She weighs in at aprx. 26 lbs the last time she was at the vet.
Kahlua and I have been battling allergies since I first got her in Jan 2011. So far have discovered she is allergic to poultry. (After battling a 5 month nasty battle with ear problems that is now much better!!) She is doing well on Wellness Core Ocean Formula (grain free and poultry free). However, allergy season has arrived MUCH early in Ontario, Canada (due to way above seasonal temperatures the past month) and in the past couple of weeks has developed "wee" mucin bubbling on her throat and armpits. Have ordered Hyvitality in hopes this helps to avoid steriod use.
She is a very anxious girl, but very comfortable with her "family". We live with just myself, her and a cat and flemish giant rabbit and she gets along with them extremely well. When I'm at work she spends time at my parent's with her "second family" which also includes two great danes, and she adores them! She gets to go on long walks on the trail behind my parent's house and she gets to play with one of her favourite people in the world..her Grandpa!
Kahlua was very outgoing when she was a puppy. However, she got her rabies shot and was spayed and around that time she seemed to change and get more anxious, especially with men (this was also when her ears started to act up). In October 2011, we were in a car accident that totaled my car as a deer ran out in front of us on highway when driving home one night. She has been more anxious since then (regarding being in a car..she used to LOVE the car) and definitely has not forgotten the area in which it happened as we drive by it several times a day when we are out and about, her memory is impeccable. She has been getting over it though; she was not injured in the accident.
She's in a program for socialization and obedience as she has high anxiety to strangers; it was halted during winter as it is an outdoor program and she can't take the cold (even with a coat on..and I can never get her booties to stay on)...so we plan on going back soon as she definitely benefited from it; and has been less anxious in situations with strangers because of it

She also seems to think she can try and trump her Mommy sometimes, very stubborn when she wants to be. What a personality.
Just wanted to say hi; have included a few pictures of her and we'll be visiting around the forums when we can:)
