Thank you busypei for the information. I stopped using Natural Balance a month or so ago after the last scare I had been a loyal customer for many years.

I just spoke to Laura at Natural Balance and their products are not involved in this South Carolina plant recall. She said it is Diamond Naturals Lamb & Rice and the problem is salmonella. Diamond is one of the plants that Natural Balance uses to package their food but they have their own people on site to do testing. Laura said that at the time of this problem, Natural Balance wasn't using the South Carolina facility at all and no Natural Balance products will be affected. Gosh, I hope she's right. When I look at all of Tobler's health issues and what kind of food is best for him, I would be lost if we didn't have Natural Balance.

amy which NB are you feeding tobler.
I use Fromm brand for our old boy Tea. He does well on it.
I home cook and give him a little of the dry. Also, my girls have had the
Earthborn Holistic with no problems.

We are feeding sweet potato and chicken.
I'm not completely sure it's going to stick because
he has been having problems with his irritable bowel
since before we changed his food.
When I was trying other foods, I did try Fromm 4 Star Whitefish
but it has grains in it and Tobler has been eating grain free for so long.
I appreciate your suggestions, but there are so many things to take into
account with Tobler and I have looked at every dog food out there.
The only one that meets all of the requirements is the one he is eating now. I just have to hope we can get his other problem under control.

I checked Earthborn out when I was looking before. Their grain free food is 38% protein. Tobler can't have high protein because of his liver disease. I'm glad they were an option for some people. I'm going to have to trust Natural Balance. I wonder if Diamond has so many problems because they have such huge facilities. Just in the South Carolina facility, they manufacture dog food for many brands and not just those that they own. I know this was just one Diamond brand of dog food that was affected but I think it's good that they are taking precautions and stopping all shipments from that facility. I just hate to think that even one pet gets hurt or dies from bad dog food. I didn't have a pet during the time when just about every commercial dog food was being recalled, but I can certainly understand why people wouldn't trust commercial dog food anymore. If I could find a dog food that fit all of my criteria and was made locally, I'd change in a second.

My vet said they had 5 cats and 3 dogs die when the initial issue happened. I personally will never feed my or any dog commercial food again. I'm lucky I'm able to do it and I sympathize greatly with people who can't whether due to schedule, money or other issues. I just don't trust any of these mfg's to be honest with you. I think each one is just an accident waiting to happen. :|

I agree Scamp! I am lucky Fromm is on my hubby's client list and we trust them. There plant smells good as compared to the Purina one I sat outside of puking. We do use a small amount daily.
But could eliminated it if need be.
You wonder if all these brands, and the ingredients coming from China Contribute to the declining health issues our dogs have.Including Cancer and Intestinal disease.

I've never had any issues with Taste of the Wild. I like the multitude of grain free options combined with the low protein. Why are they being recalled?

I've used many Diamond products, it is very frustrating to see so many recalls lately, I too thought NB was an ideal option because it's grain free and low protein, i dont like using dogfoods that are very high in protein, now which brands can we trust :?: :?: :?:
