He's only 20 months old ...... and it's been a very busy 20 months....

He's run into a parked truck.....he has eaten dvds, earplugs and several pair of eyeglasses.... he's eaten poison ivy .... he suffers from the common and well-documented Pei addiction to all things paper....

So today he's done one more thing that makes me just scratch my head in wonderment ......

Our condo's dog run has a chain link fence that separates our property from the small farm next door. There are roosters, chickens, a sheep (Mr Wooley) and two goats (Jack and Pauly). Moosh has known these guys forever and generally ignores them.
Our neighbors have now added two more lambs and a baby goat. The lambs must have arrived yesterday and they are adorable -- kind of apricot colored -- very sweet.

This AM I took Moosh into the run and he bee-lined for the fence. One of the lambs ambled over to the fence. Moosh THREW himself at the chain link fence and began chewing the metal chain link. Not just chewing -- more like tearing into it. Then he ran the line of the fence ripping up all the small green plants (you know the ones with the 3 shiny leaves ) He literally went bonkers about this lamb who quietly observed Moosh from the other side of the fence.
I had to drag him out of the run.
Later this afternoon, I took him out to a different area and he tried to get out of his halter to get to the dog run. He was able to get one leg out of it before I stopped him and got him back inside.

Not sure what this is about.
Anyone have a clue?

Either he wants to make nice and play or he wants Lamb chops (LOL) Can you video?
You'll probably have to spend some time correcting this behavior if it's for bad intent. Need to be i a good harness and with a martingale so you can make immediate corrections.

New smells. Probably redirected his instinct onto the fence.
Sad but not so terrible.
Next time, slow him down and just stand in front of his view of the sheep
and claim the sheep, put him in a sit. He will mellow.

Oh how I can empathize! You have a little hunter, I fear. New smell, prey! Yeah! Let me at 'em. You can see the little thought bubbles from here. We are working on fence running and fence busting "so I can get at that thing on the other side" with one of mine. Progress is being made. If the standing in front of the new lambs and claiming them doesn't work, use a 20 ft leash. Put Moosh on the 20 foot and when you see a run for the lambs, give a sharp and short correction (no hanging). The trainer that we work with did this with ours. It was THE ONLY THING that seemed to work with her. She still has issues but I can see a big difference--a hesitation before she takes off. This leaves me time to catch her attention and intervene. The whole incident wasn't planned. The trainer didn't give a correction. My dog took off wearing a 20ft leash--the trainer did nothing to stop her on purpose-- and when she got to the end of it...well, I don't need to explain. I never NEVER would have done that and I am still horrified. That said, it worked. She is a work in progress but that incident was a break though for her.

Moosh saw the lambs for the second time today. Though he was less crazed I'm still surprised that he acted like such an "animal" (duh)
Before working with him I took the video below. Then I "claimed the lambs" and IT WORKED. Moosh backed off. Then we did some sit, down, stays and when I released him he ran back to the fence. So we repeated the sequence. He seemed a bit more calm.
But as we left the run he was on lead/harness he pulled and spun and literally flipped over on his back.
Sigh.... progress not perfection, right?

My grand daughter fostered a baby goat that the mother goat would not feed or care for...He came for Christmas day..My pei were very good just smelled and watched..They are so adorable and sweet...Kyla held him most of the time so I do not know what kind of play they would of done..?

oh wow! looks like the lamb was curious and wanted to make friends, i'm not sure Moosh was thinking of making a new friend my dogs are very good with farm animals, Sabrina loved hanging around horses and donkeys, we have a farm close by that has sheep/lamb we've had no problems. I hope Moosh settles down a bit, never a dull moment with him

I was curious how Moosh is doing.
I know ours would react similarly. Gotta respect
the fact that peis are guard breeds. Instincts are gonna rear up in
this modern world. Keep up the good work.
I have a super soaker, long distance water pistol that I use on mine sometimes.
It does not phase Tea. But it does get the girls attention. I aim at their hind quarters
and give a verbal/hand signal to slow them down. Something else to think over.

Moosh seems to be settling down.
Today he was in the run with two little buddies from our condo (their owner put anti-bark collars on them to stop them from barking at the lambs)
Initially - the lambs were away from the fence chilling under a tree. Then the more curious one made his way over to the fence and leaned his body lengthwise into the fence. It was as if he was inviting the dogs over. The two little dogs jumped up and down and licked (tasted????) the lamb's muzzle and his closed eye -- it was so incredible to watch -- gotta remember to bring the camera.
Moosh then joined in and licked the lambs' ear which was sticking out through the fence. Though he wasn't in a frenzy I was a little concerned he might nip the ear so I moved him away. And the lamb did not budge - he actually dropped his head down seemingly quite relaxed!

I decided to quit on a good note. We've got plenty of time to continue the introductions.

Wow!!! I can not even imagine what Moosh is going through. My gang would be going NUTS!!! I hope he adjusts. There are now some chickens across the street form us and they are wandering more and more towards the street. I feel sorry if they cross it!
