My wife and I just adopted a four year old Shar Pei named Annie. Her previous owner "didn't have time for her." Annie suffered from neglect, and she was always left outside no matter what the conditions were. The day that we brought Annie home we took her to the vet because she was suffering from extreme skin and ear infections. Annie was bald from the skin infections and her ear infections were so bad that you couldn't even get a cotton tip inside of them, not to mention she was pretty much deaf. With heavy, heavy doses of antibiotics we tackled the skin infection and her fur came back in nicely, but her ears are still a problem. We still can't win even after the antibiotics and cleaning (two times a day still) - I'm wondering if anyone had any other ideas for relief and/or a cure for these ear infections.

Thanks,
Derrick & Missy Albiston

Hello Derrick and Missy,
If Annie's ears are indeed as bad as you say, I personally would have an ear section done on each ear to cure it completely, make sure you phone about to see which vet's may specialise in this operation, also make sure that you have Annie insured as this can be a costly operation, but the end result is well worth it...

Welcome fellow Salt Lakers Derrick & Missy Albiston! Which rescue group did Annie come from? I'm so glad she found a place you folks.

If you use the search feature in this forum and plug in 'ear problems' or something similar, I think you'll find a wealth of information.

My two girls are pei mixes. Babi, whom is my avatar image gets an occasional ear infection which ottomax clears up.

Good luck and let us know how you get along!

Ann :D
