My dear Lia, we love you to pieces, you snuggle, snore and wag your tail, lay on your matt to go to sleep and lick us to death, though you also.......
steal toilet paper, drink from the toilet, jump up to the counter top for table food, jump up onto the dining room table for food, jump up on people to greet them, mouth and jump up at other dogs, steal stuffed animals, steal decorations from trees, rip paper, eat remote controls, hair brushes, spray bottles, pretty much anything you can get your mouth on, you will destroy.... hm
You have been to puppy class, though I stronly feel you need to go back.
You sit, lay down, play dead, speak, jump, come, bring it, drop it mostly on command for food. You will also steal something in order for us to ask you to drop it so you can have food. You are one smart puppy...
During walks, I have to hang on tight if there is an empty bag blowing in the wind, a leaf, a cat, a dog or anything else....
please help me in some techniques to support my very hyper doggy!

Hahahaha!!!! Cute name

How old is your little terrorist?

My little female, Reni, i think had ADHD when she was younger  Oh lord, she would steal my jewelry and chew it up. Reni loved money and if she saw it anywhere she would tear it up.

Reni is now 4yrs old and she gets alittle ADHD now and then

Just a baby! She will outgrow some of it! She needs lots of excersise and some mental work to stimulate her. Think about some day care for her if she is currently crated a lot or a dog walker even a treadmill .Teach her some games- she is tryong to play with you- One I like take a muffin pan and 12 / tennis balls place a kibble or smidge or p-nut butter or canned dog food on the bottom of each cup , put the ball on top . As she learns the game cut down on the # of treat cups- until down to 1 . The balls are there on game. In the end you've taught a search and rescue skill.

WELCOME
You described my female peis. We adopted our male at an older age but im sure he had hyper spaz in him at some point
in his life....
We remember very vividly thinking this dog is ridiculous. WHEN does puppy stage END? with this breed?
We never had shar pei before and it was perplexing to us.
Then one day I was out walking the trio and someone said, you have nice dogs. I almost looked around like, who me?
Bottom line is= they do mellow with age and that spastic energy does abate and our peis did 'settle down' .....
We raised our curly tail Diva since she was a pup and all the training did pay off big time. This girl
will sit and wait for her food bowl and never snaps at her toys or at people when excited and knows calm
earns praise, walks, affection.
BUT we waited at least until she was three years old to hear 'you have a nice dog'....
HANG IN THERE.
AND post pics we love terrorist adhd peis!!!!

Hi, thank you so much for all of your support. It's nice to know that there are other adhd shar pei's out there! Lia will absolutely love the tennis ball/muffin tin game! We do believe the day will come when she settles down and we know she is still a puppy who will be a toddler for a long time. I will look forward to when she gets to the "you have a nice dog" stage, I'm sure that was a fantastic day!
she doesn't like the spray bottle, so that helps
and before we leave the front door she knows she has to sit and wait. I can put a treat in front of her nose and say wait and she will leave it alone for atleast a minute or two. She does have her good side at times too ;) our typical day:
545 wake up
6-630 dog park
645 rest
8 breakfast
8 - 11 crate
11-5 play/rest
530 crate/outside
630 dinner
645 - 8 play
9 15 min. walk
10 bed
our scedule is not always the same. My husband works shift work... most times Lia is crated 3 hours, but 1 time in 7 days she may end up crated for 10 hours. - on these days, extra dog park or longer walking days
do you any more game ideas for me?

Other games. We do 'find it' and use their noses.
-We scent a kong toy with a liver or sardine smell and hide them in the
yard and take each pei out for 'scent time' and they love that game.

-we also have a 'snowball party'....we are in the southern states where real snow
is a foreign object so we improvise with rolled up socks....that is funny....we roll up
about sixty pairs and let me fly and all three peis (after being thoroughly exercised)
run around chasing and playing and making a giant mess. Usually their favorite rainy day game.

-we are dancers too...so we like to play music and teach them silly dance routines....we are geeks.

-'helping' is another big one. Just because it rains here alot and Diva will NOT ever get wet, we spend
days inside. So 'helping' became a game. they 'help' put the laundry in the basket and 'help' getting it out....
they mainly get to roll on my dirty clothes and i find it amusing

-only big T plays ball. He likes to have it kicked and he likes to block them when they fly at him.
we line up about four balls and take turns 'shooting goals' and he LOVES that game. Trouble is he pops
soccer balls, basket balls, footballs, so we had to get him hard play ball like the ones at the zoo for tigers.

-we have places we go that they know.
Certain landmarks stimulate their noses. We take Noodle to the botanical garden. SHE LOVES IT THERE.
They have all sorts of fresh herbs planted and tropical flower smells and she just uses her NOSE the whole
time. it has a koi pond and she is very taken with turtles. That usually tuckers her out for a few days.
-Diva is picky and does not like going off trail or getting any sort of debris on her feet, she is boring.
so we take her to a bicycle path. The people there used to hate us but now they understand Diva and wave and smile at us.
-Tea is easier because a good romp at the state beach just stimulates his mind, nose and soul. Two hours for my old boy and
he is spent. We play get the seagull. He is older and fatter and he likes to hope he will catch one.

that funny toy, where is that video Sheli? That is a roaring riot. We love Reni.
